Ashton + Jonathan
Ebey’s Landing is a little spot out on Whidbey Island that has been on our location bucket list for a while now! It was the perfect setting for Ashton and Jonathan’s adapted elopement. They originally planned for a large wedding at Gilbert Cellars in Yakima, and decided to moved the party to next year. Similar to a lot of our 2020 couples, they didn’t hold off on starting their marriage!
The morning of the elopement, we drove over to Whidbey, and we were just giddy about the perfectly bright, overcast day. Right before we arrived at the cute Farmhouse they rented, we caught a glimpse of some jets flying overhead. This is a common occurrence on the island, and we’ve seen the jets before, but as we took a turn closer to the house, all of a sudden, we regretted having the windows down! We pulled over to watch the pilots practice their touch and go’s for a little bit, then showed up at the farmhouse feeling like we were yelling for the first few minutes.
We were able to capture some sweet moments of Jonathan and his kids as they got ready for the ceremony! They baked lemon lavender muffins and prepped for their dinner later that evening. Ashton arrived, and we did the first look in front of the house, and wandered around the property for more portraits! We made our way to Ebey’s Landing and did a mini hike along the side of the bluff with some of their friends + family to get to the lookout point.
The vows these two shared brought us to tears, and after some more portraits and another little hike, they shared their first dance down below in the parking lot. Their friend opened up their car and played their song to dance to! This small group came together to make this day so special for them, and we just can’t wait for the big celebration next year!
A few words from the bride-
“Getting married during a pandemic is a weird experience. A lot of waiting, a bunch of unknowns, and a lot of shifting plans and expectations. But I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone other than Jonathan. He’s been patient and so focused on making our day the best that we could given the circumstances. It’s been a stressful yet unforgettable journey and I don’t think we could have had a more romantic setting than at the top of a bluff, covered in wildflowers, overlooking the sea. Thank you to the friends and family who hiked up the hillside to watch us on our special day, and to those that reached out the day of to wish us well. We love you all!”
