Nikki and Ian first reached out to us in the spring of 2020, when we were first figuring out this whole stay-home-zoom-everyone thing. They booked us for their big wedding in 2021 that we still can’t wait for, but also mentioned getting eloped over the summer! We had penciled in the elopement date for an hour session in the city, but a few months later, they came up with a new adventure that we couldn’t turn down! They instead wanted to take a trip to Friday Harbor and spend the morning doing some engagement style photos, as well as a ceremony with just the two of them overlooking the marina.

We met in Anacortes in the morning to caravan together on the ferry to Friday Harbor and snapped a few breezy photos on our way over. If you haven’t visited Friday Harbor before, you’re missing out on such a cute little town. There are eclectic shops for trinkets and ice cream and anything in between. We decided to walk around and get some more photos in town before heading over to San Juan Island Brewing Co for lunch! After a burger and a beer, we were fueled up, and cruised across town to the Friday Harbor House, where the ceremony was being held in a couple hours. We snapped a few detail photos as they got ready, and watched the ferries shuffle in and out of the harbor.

Nikki and Ian had an intimate little ceremony officiated by the sweetest laid-back island guy you can imagine, Didier, who did a beautiful job of incorporating pieces of their relationship. We were the only “guests” in attendance, which we get blown away by every time. They even asked us to be their witnesses!

After the ceremony, we drove about 20 minutes to Lime Kiln Point State Park. Nikki and Ian met us with a couple of pizzas, we brought a little cooler of celebratory drinks, and then took photos by the lighthouse. As the sun was setting, we drove out of the park and got all turned around trying to find “you know, that one hill we shot at before.” We finally found a spot to pull off and chase the last bits of light with the drone. Nikki + Ian are the kind of people you can meet just before a ferry ride, and happily spend an entire day with. We are so excited to celebrate these two later this year!
